Mr. Hartvig is making “Will it Axe?”

April 9th, 2010

I have no clue about where Mr. Hartvig aka one of the Umbraco Twins is getting the title for this video from….  ;-)   but him message is both clear and loud – and it just makes so much sense – don’t support Apple’s closed system!

So should it be exactly 70 chars?

March 23rd, 2010

An early result in the SERPS shows that if the Title tag is longer than 70 chararcters Google will not cut it exactly at 70, even though he copy makes it possible.. what about a Title tag with exactly 70 characters?

And Google SERPS says YES…
Title tags 70 can be characters

How many characters should be used in a Title tag? Test Title tag w 70

March 23rd, 2010

So is it really true that Google has changed the numbers of characters that it will show in the title in the SERPS?
This blog post is testing if the number of characters is really moved up to now 70 characters for the title – guided by the Title tag.
I have already seen this done in a Danish test, but now another test, but in English.
FYI the Title tag on this page contains more than 70 chars, but at 70 the “cut” should be…

February was also bringing Bing growth

March 11th, 2010

It’s not going as fast as it has been, but comScore reports that February was in fact a month with a small growth in Bings share of searches in the USA.
Bing (Microsoft sites) went from 11,3% to 11,5%, but unfortunately Yahoo! went 0,2% down, so MicroHoo had a unchanged share of the searches.. still there’s a combined share of 28,3%!
And yes, Google went 0,1% up to 65,5%.

Great answer from Google

March 8th, 2010

Comedy.com has made this “interview” with Google Spokesman Chip Dunn who nicely explains that Google is the master of the Univers and that we all just have to live with all the copies Google makes…  mentioning Buzz (Twitter & Facebook copy), Nexus (iPhone copy) and Google Maps (Map Quest copy) ect….
Yeah, Chip explains that Google is so powerful that they can even get us stupid users to sign up for Wave even though Google and we dont know what to use it for…  ;-)
SWEET!

I use Seesmic on my Google Nexus One

March 1st, 2010

Changing from iPhone to Google Nexus One (and the Android platform) was also a change away from the Twitter App on iPhone to some new Twitter app..

I wont say that I found the perfect Twitter App for Google Nexus One, but I do think Seesmic is a quite good choice.
Btw I still use TweetDeck for my Laptop.

Google Ad Manager will be DFP Small Business

February 23rd, 2010

Google has now decided to take the best from Google Ad Manager, feedback from users and DoubleClick’s publisher technology and combine it into DFP (DoubleClick for Publishers).

DFP comes in 2 versions – the free DFP for Small Business which takes over from Google Ad Manger and the DoubleClick for Publishers Premium Solution, which will not be for free.
The DFP Premium Solutions should have some extra advanced features and it takes over when the publishers has more than 90M ad impressions per month.

Google will do the upgrading to DPF over the next weeks and I’m really looking forward to see the new feautures and flow – to be honest I was happy using Ad Manager for free, but the flow was so inferior to for example the Danish Emediate (which comes with a price tag).
More to come when “I” have been upgraded..

January was another month with Bing growth

February 18th, 2010

comScore reports that January 2010 was another good month for Microsoft Bing with a small increase their part of the US Search traffic.
Bing added another 0,6% and are now at 11,3%, whereas Yahoo! goes down 0,3% to 17,0% – interesting is though that the combination Yahoo!+Bing adds 0,3%.
And another interesting thing is Google US Search share going DOWN o,3% to still a massive 65,4% – still very impressive!

CoffeeCup Software is overselling their Sitemap

February 15th, 2010

Got an email from CoffeeCup Software the other day telling me that buying their sitemap module will help my search rankings…  hmm…

Ok, they dont go into details, but a catchy top of the email looking like this:
CoffeeCup Software is overselling sitemaps

Dear CoffeeCup, nice Sitemaps or cool styled sitemaps might be a good idea because of several reasons, but I have NOT seen any proffs of a sitemap helping on search rankings.
