Koh Samet

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Today its time heading for Koh Samet - I’m really looking forward to see the island that Benjamin and I visited around 6 years ago…  and I’ve heard a lot has happened…  more resorts, lot more turists, more beer-bars, more upscale places and the prices has gone up a lot, BUT the beaches should still be great - and things does move forward soooo….  let’s see - Koh Sames here I come!  ;-)

NEW Thai Mobile - please SMS me with your name!

Friday, April 20th, 2007

It turned out that my former Thai Number/subscription (12call) couldnt recieve international SMS’s, but it could recieve international calls (probably because 12call earned on the international calls, but didnt earn on the SMS), SO I got a

NEW MOBILE THAI NUMBER +66 891435076
(this number, +66 844231427, will not be used anymore!)

It seems like true move is a better choice…  let’s see..

Btw please remember to include your name in the SMS - I lost all my contact, so I need to rebuild the list…  damn.,..

3rd Under Water Cleanup at Koh Chang was a succes

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Was invited to join the 3rd Under Water Cleanup at Koh Chang and it was a succes. I joined White Sand Dive Centre, Don and his crew for a rather long day of diving/cleaning - really interesting and everybody was working hard!
At our first site, which wasnt a dive site, but rather a place where Thai fishermen dump all their shit…  nets, hoses, bottles, tires ect..  there we a LOT of junk, and we quickly got our bags filled up…  I went up and down 5 times on that dive…
The next one was regular dive site and we did find some trash there, but fortunately its was in small amounts.

Really a great thing to participate in and its great that Project A.W.A.R.E arrange and the Thai Government are sponsoring something like this!
Btw the 16-18 dive centres, their staff and guests did remove 5 ton of trash from the sea on the 18th and I’m sure they removed a lot more today.

Damn it - +66 844231427 cant recieve SMS’s

Going diving tomorrow - but a very special dive!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

On the Taxi from the ferry I meet Matt, an English instructor at Dive Point, and he told me about the coming 2 days cleaning the beaches and underwater event by the local Dive centres, their staff, some invited guests and sponsored by the government…  Sounded like a great thing to participate in and I rushed down to the local dive centre White Sand Dive Centre (Matt and Dive Point is at another beach… but he would of course help me there if needed…) and Don, the owner, promised to try to include me in the cleaning….  and then he helped me a lot finding a decent place to stay - so nice of him!
And yes, Don found a free spot for me - so I’m going to partake tomorrow - gonna be so cool!

Took Island Lodge at Koh Chang

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Koh Chang turned out to be difficult to find a decent place to stay…  Decided for White Sand Beach, which is the most developed (read commercial) one and it turned out that small rooms, not that clean and with sort of open toilets (large holes for air in the top of the walls) was between 450-800 THB, which is pretty expensive by even Bangkok standard….  could of course have taken the resorts between 2000-3000 THB, but that would be too easy…  ;-) so with help from Don at a local diving center I went around for a couple of hours and found Island Lodge - the description at Travelfish doesnt quite mention how nice it is to find a nice clean room and good service at that low price in the main beach area…  yes, it is a small walk…  and really a small walk…  but I really find it nice!

Took the bus to Koh Chang this morning

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Was rather early up this morning - needed to catch a mini van at 07.45 - as always in Thailand busses/vans are about waiting and picking more tourists up before the real driving starts…  so out of Bangkok around 09.00-09.30 - the trip went fine…  of course a food stop so the Thai drivers could eat a lot….  haha
But we went on time and the 320 km trip and 30 minutes boat trip ended up in 7 hours trip….  6 hours and 30 minutes estimated, so it was pretty close…
And I arrived at Koh Chang around 15.00….
