Wild Orchid Villa showed Thomas and I the bad side of people yesterday – I cannot recommend to stay at a hotel/restaurant showing that kind of BAD service and attitude!
Yesterday was the last day with LOTS of water and chalk and at Wild Orchid Villa the staff and some friends of theirs was really celebrating spraying water with a water hose, starting already at around 12.00… everybody was having fun and it was certainly a party…
Thomas joined me at 14.30 we got a couple of beers and went around….
Came back to Wild Orchid Villa around 21-22 (I was staying there…) and we got a couple beers more and got invited to join the fun, so some of the local guys gave us some BIG water guns… NICE…
At around 2245 it was just Thomas and I sitting at the wet area and some girl (she turned out to be a psycotic manager of Wild Orchid Villa!!??) came and ask us casually to bring in a 400-600 liter ice cooler… a cooler filled with water used for the splashing of people… we smiled but did nothing.
She came back again and tried to do it herselves and we shot her with just a small spray of water and she went balistic!!! Slapping Thomas in the face, being held back by her collegues, but even managed to throw 2 rather big water guns at Thomas…. Great managers they have at Wild Orchid Villa!
After some long talk with the staff that openly said that they didnt care about it or to help in any way… I mean her apology would have been aporeciated… in fact they just asked us to pay the bill, which I refused before we could have a talk with the manager… that made them ‘order’ a beating squad… YES… they staff and their friends was telling us we better pay now or suffer the consequences… yeah, in fact rather scary!!!
Luckily a police man came around… I tried to the the staff to call the Tourist Police, but they refused…. so I got the nice staff at New Siam 1 to help me… and I guess that was the Police man showing up. He was very polite and checked the case….talked with the shouting manager at Wild Orcid Villa and us…. and asked what we would like… we just asked for an apology… and the manager manged to give a very angry and cold apology… yes, she was still furious!
I went up, packed my backpack and we left for another hotel – even having payed for the night it was certainly not worth staying there or EVER spending anymore money at Wild Orchid Villa!!
Strange how people can snap like that… never got that kind of BAD service and attitude i Thailand before!

[...] Is it stange how we people has a tendency to always remember the bad experiences? It’s soon 14 days since I returned from a really nice vacation in Thailand (and I promise to write more about the different places) and I really do remember the trip as great, but still I cant forget about the rude and threatening staff at Wild Orchid Villa in Bangkok – and the female manager who even slap Thomas… I have NEVER experienced anything like that in Thailand before! I can only repeat myselves – DONT stay at Wild Orchid Villa! [...]
Hi Niels,
Thanks a lot for the good and honest advice.
My girlfriend and I will certainly keep away from that ‘Wild’ Orchid Villa place.
Peter
[...] It seems like Thomas and I was fare from the only people having trouble in the Khao San Road area – my experience with the very unfriendly manager and staff at Wild Orchid Villa always get to my mind when I read stories like the one Carolien is telling here. But dont get me wrong – that will not stop me visiting Thailand and its nice people, but just make me watch out if… [...]
Sorry to hear about the bad experience. Mine was just the opposite. It was a bit of an oasis for me. Helpful staff, storage for my backpack when I ventured into Cambodia, great place to hang out and meet friends, I called back to make a reservation from Koh Phangan before returning and they remembered me by my voice, and a huge comfortable bed for my 6′4″ frame. When I go back to Bangkok, this is the first place I think of to stay.
Hi Larry!
Good to hear that not everybody gets that kind of experience that we had… I was in Bangkok in August again – and of course I didnt stay at Wild Orchid Villa but at another hotel in the Khao San area…. and of course just good service and kind staff.
Niels
Hi Niels!
Wow, that was a really bad experience you had at Wild Orchid Villa. We were there in August and we didnt find the people there very nice either – New Siam II is a lot nicer.

[...] As its very clear from my blogging about Koh Tao and diving in general in Thailand I do really love being there among the very nice Thais and the great sea life. But sometimes things can get rather out of hand also in Thailand, which my friend Thomas and I did experience back in April 2007 – the manager at Wild Orchid Villa in Bangkok really showed us how things can get out of hand and Thomas and I was pretty much only saved by a Police officer… for details check out my posting about the bad experience at Wild Orchid Villa on my blog klintoe.org. Please, burn this place down

This Hotelstuff n management is really worse, they are discreminating there own people.
unbeleavable
Hi, i am leaving for Thailand in some hours.
Could you please advise me on some other place to stay in Khaosan Rd as i want to avoid the Wild Orchid
Thnx
Hi Spiros!
Yes, there’s pleanty of good places in the Khaosan Rd area.
Try to look at the New Siam Guest Houses – they got rather inexpensive rooms up to a bit finer rooms by the river – http://www.newsiam.net/
(4 hotels/guest houses in all)
Where are you heading for in Thailand?
I’ll be heading for Koh Chang on the 8th March – will in fact also arrive in Thailand at the same day and then directly to Koh Chang.
Bests,
Niels
I’m not surprised that you had a person snap at you. By the way if I asked for help and you didn’t give me the grace to verbally respond to my question and while I’m struggling to move a 400 to 600 litre water cooler and you shot me with water, how do you think I would respond? I’d get your sorry butts out of my hotel too!
I’m not surprised that you had a bad experience based on your immature behaviour.
Hi Chris!
Thats nice…. so you would kick your clients sorry buts out of your hotel with baseball bats…
And to answer your question (and especially seen in the light of Songkran) ‘I would ask you (us) to stop being funny and shoot with water…’ (the amount of water was really nothing), but there was absolutely no excuse for going balistic and ordering in guys with baseball bats.
So a bit of immature water (on Songkran) makes baseball bats the right thing for the manager at Wild Orchid Villa to do… hmmmm
(btw Songkran is the period where you will find a country full of immature behavior – do a search on google pictures and take a look)
Niels
who loves to be immature at Songkran, just like the rest of Thailand…
Wow. Sorry to hear about the bad experience.
I have stayed there many times with my husband and always had a great stay. LOVE the place! I even recommend to friends and they all love it too.
Clean rooms, friendly staff, storage, great breakfast in open air…..maybe the manager was just having a really bad day (still no excuse) but I don’t believe it is like that all the time.
Better luck next time!
[...] some of you might remember Thomas Sørensen and I did have a very bad experience at Wild Orchid Villa in April 2007, and now the new manager Jackie at Wild Orchid Villa has been commenting on of my blog post and [...]
well this is very useful… (at least for me)
very thanks

Travel at Thailand
Hi again. I posted some months ago. I really was scared by the description of the bad experience our friend here had, but i have to tell you guys. i actually went there, saw the place (and many other) and decided to stay in Wild orchid for 2 weeks. Well… honestly i didnt regret it at all. The rooms were clean and the staff really friendly. I would definatelly return there again. Better luck next time mates.
Cheers
Thats really good news!
Seems like the new manager Jackie at Wild Orchid Villa has improved it as she wrote me – I’m happy to hear that!
Niels
Sad to hear, you had that experience. But saying that eveyone should stay away from the place just because you experienced a “freak” incident seems a bit harsh. I stayed there for a week with my girlfriend last summer and generally had a good time. No problems or slaps in the face… I think I have some places higher up on my list of shitty places in Thailand, than the Orchid… I’ts okay priced (for Bangkok) and exeptionally clean.
been there early may 09, this is a good place to stay, price is reasonable and clean. but the waitress there is not friendly, that is the thing i dun like. I think their business is good, hack care, dun bother much the counter servicing. I really doubt when people said Thailand is service oriented country. Overall experience 5 days in thailand, services and friendliness are not there.
Wow, I’m sorry to hear that you havents seen Thailand as a friendly and serviceoriented country… thats not how I have experiences Thailand..
Apart from the bad experience at Wild Orchid Villa some years ago I have only good experiences..
And yes, I do need to try Wild Orchid Villa sometimes in the future.
Hi there,
I am staying there in a few weeks for a few days on the way to Cambodia. Has anyone had any experience storing luggage there? I.e. Costs, security, space limits etc. I just want to leave my suitcase full of winter clothes for the UK there, and take my backpack with me, so I’m not asking them to look after my laptop or anything silly, but wanted to know what to expect. Otherwise I will just go with another place I have found with good reports.
Let me know if you have any thoughts.
Cheers Maddie
Hi Maddie!
If Wild Orchid Villa is getting better as the new manager who to me (see other blog post) I wouldnt be afraid of leaving a suitcase full of winter clothes with them – in any decent hotel in Bangkok/Thailand I wouldnt be afraid of it.. as long as its not 5 laptops with files you really really need later (those I wouldnt leave in Copenhagen hotel either..).
I really cant remember the prices, but I do remember seeing signs about that in several hotels, so it seems to be pretty standard.
Btw do read my blog post about getting to Cambodia – it might be useful..
Have a great trip – I’m sure you’ll enjoy Cambodia!
Niels
Hi
3 weeks ago, we stayed the second time in the Wild Orchid Villa in the Suite on the roof. As last year, the staff was not very friendly. But the horriblest thing this year was at the checkout. Before we left, they checked the room and on the pillow and the bedspread they identified some black spots of the haircolor of my girlfriend. This happens sometimes, when my girlfriend is sweating in the night. This could also happen at home and after washing the bedclothes, everything is fine and white as snow. Not so in the Wild Orchid Villa: After they brought the bedclothes down to reception, we had to pay 800 baht (33 US$) because they don’t want to wash, they telled us they have to buy new stuff. I complained, that this is bullshit, but then the manager and 2 other guys of the staff shout to us. So we left the place and I promise, we never will come back to this sick house! Not other hotel or guesthouse in the world will charge you for some spots of haircolor (btw: my gf colored her hair one week before that night!). So be aware of the Wild Orchid Villa, even it looks at a nice backpacker place. There are a lot of other good possibilities to stay in bkk – around Khao San or also somewhere else. With the costs of the bedclothes, we payed over 2′000 baht for one night and for this price you can stay at a very good boutique hotel in Sukumvhit Area…
Cheers Stephan
