Back with my old mobile phone number

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Back in Copenhagen again and not even the SLOW work of SAS  (more about that later) could delay me in getting a new mobile phone at get my old mobile number (+45 26100078) working again - PLEASE send me a SMS with your name, so I can get my old contact back again (remember I lost my mobile and my contact in Bangkok).
Today Telia gave me a new SIM card and a new mobile phone for a good price - I choose a new Motorola model - the MotoKRZR - K1, a pretty cool phone with a better camera than my ‘old’ MotoRAZR…  gonna be interesting…

Just left Koh Samet

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Checking out at the hotel at Koh Samet and the trip back on the ferry to Ban Phre went smooth, so now its just a 4 hours mini-bus trip ahead and Bangkok it is……. and then soon back to Denmark.
This is certainly not the last time I will visit Koh Samet - the weather, the beach, the good food and not to forget the sweet people there will certainly make me come back again and again…..

Fire show at Ploy Talay Resort

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Ploy Talay resort (same company as the great Ploy Diving) offers a great sea food BBQ and also rooms (havent tried) and every night they have a fire show, but not a small one! Ploy Talay probably has Koh Samets biggest one - 7 very skilled ‘fire-men’! I have been enjoying their sea food BBQ for several night and of course the show while relaxing on the beach… so nice!

Great food at Koh Samet

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I must admit that the sea food at Koh Samet is GREAT - and I have probably eaten too much, so back to Gym when I arrive in Copenhagen on Saturday evening…
(Good that sea food isnt the worst thing to over-eat in…) ;-)
I have had red snapper, huge prawns, crabs, tuna, squid, mussles, clams, baracuda and yesterday I tried Oyster… really some big ones and fresh from the sea around Koh Samet of course.

Paragliding at Koh Samet

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I didnt do it….  but it certainly looks rather tempting!
As every island with some tourism Koh Samet also gives the posibility of paragliding, tours and jetskiing…  I did only diving….
But a paraglider can take up to 2 persons…

Diving outside Koh Samet

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Went diving today and it was pretty good - the visibility was from pretty good to bad (3 meters) because of the tide and therefor lots of particles in the water, but the rather shallow dive sites were really nice - Koh Samet is certainly also a place to take a couple of dives when your here…
I went diving with Ploy Scuba Diving and Dive Master Theep and his guys were great! Thanx!
Theep did in fact warn me about the visibility and I had the dives alone with him - great service. We went out in their speedboat at 13 and were back around 16, a nice way to do it!

The visibility was not that good, but suddenly we found ourselves on top of a resting stingray - a BIG stingray!! its pretty difficult to see from the picture, but this big guy had a body a little more than 1,5 meter in diameter and then comes the tail…

And a small underwater snake or?

And a friend of ‘Nemo’ - at least one living in the same ‘house’…

And of course the happy boy…..  ;-)

Going diving tomorrow

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Enough from me today… but tommorow I’ll be going diving somewhere close to Koh Samet - yes, it seems like they have found some dive sites around this nice island - great!

Check out the island!

I know a lot of guidebooks tells that Koh Samet is ‘destroyed’ by the tourism…. but to be honest its NOT that bad… I know for an old backpacker used to be here in 80′ies it must be surprise to see clean rooms with sometimes a fan and air-conditioning, but come on… its NOTHING like Phuket og Koh Samui so relax… Koh Samet is still a slow island, but they do have electricity, goooood food and a cold beer… ;-)

First day at Koh Samet

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Spend a lot of the time yesterday in the sun…  and got at bit red on the shoulders..  like always…  haha…

Here’s some of my snaps…

Check out the Thai - also enjoying the great beach!

And I thought it was only in Denmark you find bicycles, but no…. did in fact find 2 Thais biking on the beach on Koh Samet… cool!

Koh Samet

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Arrived safely at Koh Samet Saturday late afternoon at 17.30 – the trip on the road was not so bad (only 182 km, but a lot of cars and bad roads..) and the boat trip was also pretty cool..  took a bit longer than normal… we had to do at stop before the jetty, because we had some tables and chairs that need to be delivered… Then the boat just make a small change in direction.. That’s Thailand ;-)

At Koh Samet there was pretty much sold out when it comes to rooms – the Thais goes to Koh Samet in the weekends themselves, but it was fare from the totally sold out situation that LonelyPlanet and some other sites writes about…  But
I did manage to find a really nice room at Saikaew Villa, which was a good pick - the rooms are nice, at a fair price, food is nice and the staff are so friendly - I can really recommend it!
